When you dine here, you will “board a unique elevator for a journey to connect to a space station.” Yes, you’re eating in outer space while looking down at the Earth from 220 miles above it. We just learned that its name is Space 220 Restaurant. At the 2017 D-23 Expo, Disney announced a space-themed restaurant that is due to open by the end of 2019. If this concept seems familiar, it should.Īnother reveal for World Discovery involves the Mission: SPACE area. The building’s interior highlights Galaxeria, a “planetarium-like presentation that will take you from Earth to Xandar and back.” Once you’re done exploring, you will have the opportunity to fly a Nova ship into outer space and gaze at the Earth from there. Sure, it’s a joke, but the theme will support the notion. The show building is something park officials have called the first “otherworld pavilion” at Epcot. The Guardians of the Galaxy premise will go beyond Cosmic Rewind. Various Disney intellectual properties will anchor several rides, a change that started at The Seas with Nemo & Friends. The presence of a Guardians of the Galaxy underscores another aspect of the Epcot changes. It’ll start with an explosive backward acceleration, which explains the name. We’ve known for a while that this roller coaster would replace Ellen’s Energy Adventure.ĭuring D23, we learned a bit more about the attraction. It’ll soon gain another E-ticket ride, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. World Discovery starts with two attractions, Mission: SPACE and Test Track. The theme is, of course, Discovery, but the presentations have a distinct outer space focus. While you’ve thought of the various sections of Epcot as distinct pavilions, they will share a concept from now on. Instead, the new themed land is World Discovery. By 2021, this place will no longer exist. You remember a time when Epcot featured a section called Future World East. Let’s break down the specifics of each new, different world. Chapek reminded Disney fans of these words almost as a defense mechanism against impending criticisms of the cataclysmic change. He spoke them during the original declaration of the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. Those words are a direct quote from Walt Disney. It will never cease to be a living blueprint of the future.” The applicable words are: “Epcot is an experimental prototype community that will always be in a state of becoming. Almost as if worried about potential backlash, presenter (and Parks chairman) Bob Chapek explained this major redesign of Future by quoting Walt Disney. Those sections are Celebration, Nature, and Discovery. Moving forward, Future World will introduce three others. Specifically, Epcot is now comprised of four different worlds. Like the old sitcom theme song says, it’s a different world from where you came from. The most significant change at Epcot is the one that will take some time to accept. Here’s what the future of Future World will look like based on what we just learned at D23. The changes are exciting, but let’s be clear. And, if we’re honest with ourselves, it’s a decision that’s long overdue.ĭuring the 2019 D23 Expo, Disney executives revealed what they have planned for Future World. Specifically, Disney has wiped out a significant portion of Future World with the intention of modernizing it. The Walt Disney Company has shut down many of the offerings that you identify with the park. The Epcot that you’ve known since childhood is no more.
